GenArt at Little Earth of United Tribes
Winter/Spring 2016

The GenArt program brought youth and elders from Little Earth of United Tribes together in the creation of photographic, written, visual, and musical art inspired by conversations about identity, time, and memory. In the music workshop, led by Medium Zach of Big Quarters, participants produced six musical tracks. In the second series, led by poet Desdamona and photographer Joeseph Allen, youth and elders created creative writing pieces, poetry and portrait photography in and around the Little Earth community. In the final series, led by Peyton Scott Russell, youth and elders discussed the history of graffiti art, working across generations to collaboratively design letters and artistically represent their names. In June, the group collaboratively created a large-scale painted board with the words “Little Earth.”

GenArt was made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
