On Thursday, January 19th, Patrick's Cabaret, 20% Theatre Company Twin Cities, and Intermedia Arts joined forces with theaters across the nation to create a symbolic and real "light" for challenging times ahead, confirming that theaters have been, and will remain, safe spaces for all.
On January 19, on the eve of the inauguration, we lit up the night, renewing our commitment to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone regardless of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
Following this brief ceremony, we walked down the street to moto-i where we enjoyed food and beverage together, and considered how we will put our intentions into action in 2017.
We joined the Ghostlight Project and theaters across the country hosting similar events at 5:30PM in each time zone. The event was inspired by the tradition of leaving a "ghost light" on in a darkened theater —offering visibility and safety for all who might enter. Anyone, regardless of current relationship to Patrick's Cabaret, 20% Theatre Company Twin Cities, and/or Intermedia Arts was welcome to attend.
