Art spotlight: 'El Milagro'
BY MARY ABBE
Star Tribune
Wanting something suitably grand to mark its 11th anniversary, the ad hoc group of Latino artists known as Grupo Soap del Corazon decided to stage "El Milagro" (The Miracle). Enlisting more than 30 local and transnational artists, the show promises to take on "the religious, mystical, cultural, political, psychological and historical nature of miracles and the miraculous, especially amongst Latin Americans." Expect paintings, photos, installations, posters, prints, retablos, ex-votos, shrines and probably high jinks, too. Minneapolis photographer Xavier Tavera, co-organizer of the event with Douglas Padilla, made the image shown above, called "Cuando Llora."
