A living, interactive installation about grief and healing opening on September 22 and up through the duration of the festival.


Ellen Marie Hinchcliffe is a poet, performer and filmmaker. Recent work includes the film Thought Woman- The Life and Ideas of Paula Gunn Allen and the collection of poetry Fierce Shimmer- Poems for Mama. Her performance work includes Dirty the Bones- On Being White and Other Lies and Death’s Daughter. She has performed at Intermedia Arts, Bedlam Theater, Pleasure Rebel, and Pangea World Theater. Ellen is part of the artistic duo From the Hive with Gabrielle Civil. From the Hive curated two evenings of performance called Girls in Their Bedroom and just completed co-editing an issue of Aster(rix) a journal of art, criticism and literature, due out this spring. Ellen is currently working on a handbook How to Be White and Not a Complete Mess and a memoir about her early twenties, What Remains.  

Ellen’s work is about ancestors, spirit, politics, contradictions, humor, confronting white supremacy and always about healing.  Ellen lives in Minneapolis two blocks from the Mississippi with her husband Juma B. Essie and their amazing daughter.  More at www.fierceshimmer.com
